BYU Geology homecoming 2013

Black Rock Desert field trip and dinner

This year's alumni homecoming trip was on spring deposits in the Black Rock Desert, led by Steve Nelson. I wanted more experience in this part of Utah, and it's fun to be with the alums, so I went along. There are some neat travertine deposits in outcrop in these pictures, including the amazing cliff face at an abandoned mine. You can see lots of the volcanic features of the Black Rock in the background, with some views of Tabernacle Hill and the Pahvant Butte cinder cone. We had a great time. This was also the first year we had our alumni meal at dinner time on Friday night at the museum, it was fun to see everyone there.
